KENTUCKY SUPERINTENDENTS PRESENT INNOVATIONS IN EDUCATION TO INTERIM JOINT COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION
  • District News

Rockcastle County Superintendent, Carrie Ballinger, joined KASS Executive Director Jim Flynn, Johnson County Superintendent Thom Cochran, and Fleming County Superintendent Brian Creasman in presenting on Innovations in Kentucky Education to the Interim Joint Committee on Education about the innovative work happening in Kentucky schools.  Discussed during the testimony was the importance of partnering with the local community to develop and implement Community Based Accountability Models. The committee also heard about roadblocks to this work and the policy environment that will help make these kinds of innovations the norm. The goal of this work is to be responsive to the local community in providing choice options within our public schools. Also, discussed were key ideas surrounding innovations in alternative placements to align with options provided with the passage of HB568 during the last legislative session. This is an exciting opportunity to begin the conversation with policymakers about these issues. A special thank you to Senator Brandon Storm and Representative Josh Bray for supporting Rockcastle County Schools.
