Become a Substitute with Rockcastle County Schools

Substitute employees are vital to the success of Rockcastle County Schools. By providing reliable support in our classrooms and schools, substitutes ensure students continue to learn and grow every day. With flexible scheduling and the opportunity to make a difference, this role is an excellent way to contribute to our district and community.

For those interested in becoming a Substitute Teacher or Substitute Instructional Assistant, our district hires during two key windows each year: July–October and January–April.

  • Substitute Teachers – Provide classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher.

  • Substitute Instructional Assistants / Paraeducators – Support student learning, assist teachers, and help with classroom management.

  • Substitute Bus Drivers – Safely transport students to and from school and activities (requires appropriate CDL and training).

  • Substitute Custodians – Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in our schools.

  • Substitute Cook/Baker – Assist in preparing and serving meals while ensuring cafeteria operations run smoothly.
