The Rockcastle County community came together on Friday evening to celebrate a historic moment—the grand opening of the new state-of-the-art football field at Rockcastle County High School.
The event began with a ribbon cutting ceremony, symbolizing not only the completion of a long-awaited project, but also the promise of new opportunities for student-athletes and the continued tradition of pride, excellence, and unity that defines Rocket Nation.
During the ceremony, district and community leaders were recognized for their vision, dedication, and support in making this project a reality. Honorees included:
Rockcastle County Board of Education – Mrs. Angela Stallsworth Mink, Chair; Mrs. Anna Steven-Goff, Co-Chair; Mr. Matt Chaliff; Mrs. Angie Parsons-Woods; and Mrs. Lisa Cornett, for their leadership and commitment to the district’s mission and vision.
Dr. Carrie Ballinger, Superintendent, for her leadership and tireless efforts in securing funding and ensuring that Rockcastle students have the very best opportunities both on and off the field.
State Senator Brandon Storm and State Representative Josh Bray, for their advocacy and support in bringing this project to fruition.
Mr. Trent Clark, Director of Facilities, for overseeing every detail of the construction process and ensuring the field met the highest standards.
Mr. J.D. Bussell, Coordinator of District-Wide Programs, and Mr. Mike McNabb, RCHS Athletic Director, for guiding the final preparations to ensure the facility was game-day ready.
Ms. Jenny Sweet, Director of Finance, for her careful planning and financial stewardship throughout the project.
Coaches Chris Larkey, Jeff Tipton, Kevin Conforti, and Dylan Bullen, for their dedication to their athletes. With the addition of the new field and track, Lady Rocket Soccer and Rocket Track now have a place to call home.
Former Coaches Tom Larkey and Tony Saylor, whose decades of leadership and passion helped shape the Rocket football tradition.
Mr. Larry Woods, Former Football Coach, recognized for laying the foundation of Rocket football and leaving a lasting legacy.
Rockcastle County High School Administration – Ms. Brandy Smith, Principal, and Mr. Tom Greer, Assistant Principal – along with Rockcastle County Middle School Administration – Ms. Jessica Willis, Principal; Mr. Zach Gentry, Assistant Principal; and Ms. Brooke Bishop, Assistant Principal, for their leadership and dedication to students.

Mr. Roger Adams, Rockcastle’s biggest fan, who was invited to join the celebration in recognition of his loyal support of Rocket athletics.
As the community gathered beneath the Friday night lights, the ribbon was cut and history was made. The new field now stands as a place where memories will be created, victories will be celebrated, and the proud Rocket tradition will continue to soar for generations to come.
