Rockcastle County Schools has been awarded $974,230.00 through the USDA Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Distance Learning Grant. This significant investment will allow the district to replace flat-panel displays used for distance learning in each elementary classroom, strengthening instructional access and real-time connections for students across Rockcastle County.

The district was honored to host a panel event featuring Travis Burton, USDA State Director for Kentucky. During the visit, district leaders showcased how flat panel technology is expanding opportunities and removing barriers for students.

Through Classroom Connections, medically fragile students receiving care at Rockcastle Regional Hospital are able to remain actively connected to their classrooms, teachers, and peers. This technology ensures students facing serious health challenges can continue learning and stay engaged with their school community.

The district also highlighted how distance learning technology is used to share information and learning experiences related to health sciences from the Rockcastle Area Technology Center with students in other grade levels across the district. These virtual connections allow students to explore topics in health sciences and gain exposure to career-focused learning opportunities beyond their individual classrooms.

Superintendents from Knox County Schools and Bell County Schools also joined the discussion. Both districts were recently awarded the same grant and shared how this funding will positively impact students and expand innovation in their communities.

This USDA RUS grant represents a powerful investment in rural education, ensuring Rockcastle County Schools continues to provide equitable access, innovative instruction, and meaningful connections as Rocket Learners grow into Rocket Leaders.
