Rockcastle County Schools will be participating in Kentucky’s “local-first” initiative, as featured in The MAHA Report.
This initiative focuses on strengthening communities by investing in local partnerships, resources, and systems that support the overall well-being of students and families. By prioritizing community-based solutions, the “local-first” approach works to create stronger connections between schools, families, and local organizations.
Through this work, Rockcastle County Schools will continue to build on existing efforts that support the whole child—ensuring students have access to the resources, opportunities, and support systems they need to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.
The district’s participation will also expand opportunities within its food service program, creating stronger connections with local farmers and increasing access to fresh, locally sourced foods for students.
“Being a part of Kentucky’s new ‘Local First’ initiative is an exciting opportunity for Rockcastle County Schools,” said Director of Food Service, Mr. Chris Bishop. “This program will allow us to provide our students with fresh, locally grown foods while strengthening partnerships with our local farmers. By incorporating more Kentucky-grown products into our menus, we can create even healthier, higher-quality meals that benefit both our students and staff. Just as importantly, this initiative helps create an ‘easy button’ for sourcing local foods, making it more practical and sustainable for our district. It’s truly a win-win for our schools, our community, and our agricultural partners.”
Participation in this initiative aligns with Rockcastle County Schools’ continued focus on collaboration, innovation, and meeting the needs of every student. As this work moves forward, the district remains committed to developing Rocket Learners to Rocket Leaders while strengthening the connections that make Rockcastle County a supportive and thriving community.
