As part of All In for Ag Week, Roundstone Elementary hosted a special Fall Festival Day, bringing community partners, agriculture leaders, and students together for a full day of hands-on learning.
Throughout the day, Roundstone students rotated through a variety of activities designed to help them explore the many ways agriculture impacts their lives and communities. Lessons covered everything from soil, farming, nutrition, and insects to the dairy industry, leadership, and FFA.
Students participated in Eating Your Colors with Shannon Stevens from the Department of Agriculture and explored soil through Soil Babies and Soil Rainbow Jars with Apryl Kirby from the Rockcastle County Conservation District. Carol Sigmon of Sigmon Farms shared From Soil to Stall Farming, giving students another look at agriculture and life on the farm.
Our own Rocket Learners also had the opportunity to become teachers for the day. RCHS FFA student leaders led activities including Insect Inspection and Farming Pizza, while RCMS FFA, alongside Hillary Whitaker, presented How Do You Like Them Apples?
Students also learned from FFA State Officers throughout the festival. Austin Van led a lesson focused on Teamwork, Haylee Tucker discussed Agriculture and Its Importance, and Caroline Rhea shared more about Leadership and the FFA. Miss Rockcastle Lilyann Hayes also joined students for a lesson highlighting the dairy industry.
The Fall Festival Day was made possible through the time, knowledge, and support of the many community partners, FFA leaders, and students who helped create meaningful learning experiences for Roundstone students.
A special thank you goes to Ms. Starla Benge for her hard work, planning, and dedication to bringing the day together. Her efforts, along with the support of our community and student leaders, helped make the Fall Festival Day a memorable way for students to learn more about agriculture while connecting classroom learning with the world around them.
Roundstone’s Fall Festival Day was a great example of what All In for Ag Week is all about—connecting students with agriculture through hands-on learning, community partnerships, and opportunities for Rocket Learners to become Rocket Leaders.
