A simple idea from a fourth-grade student at Roundstone Elementary School is making a big impact by spreading kindness throughout the school!
During this year's Open House, fourth-grader Layla Cobb approached Principal Mr. Reynolds with an idea to recognize students for showing kindness and going above and beyond. Together, they worked to bring her vision to life, creating “Random Quacks of Kindness.”
With the help of Layla's mother, Whitney Cobb, who hand-makes the ducks for the project, the initiative has become a special way to celebrate students who make a positive difference.
Throughout each week, Roundstone staff members nominate students who demonstrate kindness, help others, and go above and beyond in their daily actions. Nominated students are then entered into a weekly drawing for a handmade duck!
Layla also had the opportunity to share her project at the October Rockcastle County Board of Education meeting, where she highlighted how her idea has come to life and is helping spread kindness throughout her school.
This student-led initiative is a wonderful example of Leader in Me in action, showing how students can take initiative, lead by example, and positively influence their school community. It also reflects Rockcastle County Schools' Portrait of a Rocket, particularly the competencies of being a Responsible Citizen and an Innovative Leader.
Layla's idea is a reminder that leadership doesn't have an age requirement and that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting impact.
At Rockcastle County Schools, we are proud to see our Rocket Learners becoming Rocket Leaders by finding creative ways to make their schools better places for everyone!
