Storybook Trail

The Rockcastle County Early Childhood Council, Rockcastle County Public Library, Save the Children, and the City of Mt. Vernon have partnered to bring a new Reader to Leaders Storybook Trail to the City of Mt. Vernon Park!

The grand opening of the Reader to Leaders Storybook Trail will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026! Families are invited to visit the park and experience this exciting new addition to our community.

The Storybook Trail encourages children and families to enjoy reading while exploring the outdoors. As families walk along the trail, they can follow the pages of a featured children's book, combining literacy, physical activity, and quality family time.

The trail currently features Coat of Many Colors by Dolly Parton, a heartwarming story that celebrates kindness, love, and the importance of family.

This new addition provides a wonderful opportunity for families to build early literacy skills while enjoying one of our community's outdoor spaces.

A special thank you to the Rockcastle County Early Childhood Council, Rockcastle County Public Library, Save the Children, and the City of Mt. Vernon for working together to bring this wonderful opportunity to our community! Their partnership is helping promote early literacy, encourage outdoor exploration, and create meaningful experiences for children and families throughout Rockcastle County.

We encourage families to visit the City of Mt. Vernon Park and experience the new Reader to Leaders Storybook Trail!
