On Thursday, September 18, 2025, Rockcastle County Schools students, staff, and community members proudly participated in the annual Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) Hunger Walk, uniting to raise awareness about hunger and demonstrate the power of service and leadership.
The ceremony featured the RCHS JROTC presentation of colors and a moving performance of the National Anthem by RCHS student Susanne Mullins. Inspiring words were shared by Dr. Carrie Ballinger, Superintendent of Rockcastle County Schools, and Mr. J.D. Bussell, Principal of Rockcastle County High School, highlighting the importance of community partnerships and student leadership in addressing hunger.
Students across the district took the spotlight, with RES student Jessie Isaacs, RCMS student Sadie Adams, and RCHS student Sydney Woods representing their schools and speaking about the importance of giving back. Kayla Miller, a Rockcastle FFA student, shared remarks as part of the district’s “All in for Ag Week,” emphasizing the impact agriculture has on combating hunger.
The morning concluded with students, staff, and community members walking together from the courthouse to Mt. Vernon Elementary, a visible demonstration of Rockcastle County’s commitment to serving others. Food donations collected through the schools will directly support families through CAP’s Grateful Breads program.
This year’s Hunger Walk was a powerful example of how Rockcastle County Schools’ “Rocket Learners to Rocket Leaders” vision comes to life—empowering students to lead, serve, and make a difference in their community.
