Rockcastle County High School GATE students participated in an unforgettable educational field trip to Oak Ridge National Laboratory! Students explored the Frontier supercomputer and learned how it supports cutting-edge research and national problem-solving. They also toured the historic Graphite Reactor, gaining insight into early nuclear research and Oak Ridge’s critical role in the Manhattan Project during World War II.
The experience continued at the American Museum of Science and Energy, where students explored interactive exhibits on energy production, nuclear science, electricity, and environmental sustainability. Through hands-on activities with circuits, electrical charge, conductors, and insulators, students connected classroom learning to real-world applications and innovation.🚀
