A fun-filled day of discovery at Maywood! 🌿
RCHS GATE students had an incredible time hosting MVES Kindergarten for a hands-on environmental experience full of exploration and learning. From investigating creek life and hiking through Kentucky’s native trees to learning about animal adaptations and searching for insects, our young learners stayed curious every step of the way!
Thank you to our partners at the EKU Division of Natural Areas for helping make this meaningful experience possible. We love seeing our Rocket Learners spark a passion for science and the outdoors—future scientists in the making! 🚀

RCHS Gifted & Talented students stepped into leadership roles as they hosted Roundstone’s 1st & 2nd graders for a hands-on environmental experience. From animal camouflage to predator-prey relationships and creek biodiversity, students explored, discovered, and connected with the world around them.
A day filled with curiosity, collaboration, and real-world learning—this is what “Rocket Learners to Rocket Leaders” looks like! 🚀







Students in the RCHS Appalachian Studies class participating in the Smithsonian Democracy in Dialogue program recently took part in a special cultural exchange with seniors from the Christian Appalachian Project. Over lunch, students and community members shared stories, perspectives, and experiences—building connections that bring learning to life beyond the classroom.

Learning comes to life outside the classroom! 🌿
RCHS GATE students had an incredible day at Maywood hosting Brodhead Elementary 1st graders for a hands-on environmental education experience. With support from EKU’s Environmental Education program, our students led engaging activities like Insect Inspection, the Camo Game, Creek Exploration, and the Oh Deer simulation—bringing science, teamwork, and discovery together in a meaningful way.
We’re proud of our students for stepping into leadership roles and inspiring our youngest learners to explore and care for the world around them.

Rockcastle County Schools offer half-day preschool sessions Monday through Thursday at each elementary school. Kentucky’s preschool programs are available for:
• All four-year-old children whose family income is no more than 160% of the poverty level
• All three and four-year-old children with developmental delays or disabilities, regardless of income
Children must be 4 years old by August 1, 2026, to enroll as a four-year-old preschool student.
If you are interested, please contact your child’s school to schedule an appointment.

Students explored the powerful impact of Rockcastle County on the global music scene, enjoyed a guided tour from Executive Director Jessica Blankenship, and experienced a live performance by Donovan Howard.
A big thank you to Ann Cromer for organizing this opportunity, Jenny Sweet for securing transportation through grant support, and Ms. Ashley McClure for getting our students there safely!
